Good Days

Well the last couple of weeks have been pretty exciting. With the house deal almost done (we take possession in less than two paycheques, Alison keeps reminding me) and are things starting to wrap up at the club, things have been pretty hectic.

It was just announced at work that I have a new position for the next few weeks. I will be acting as the Regional Municpal Operations Officer for the MTO Eastern Region. The job looks after relationships and agreements between MTO and the municipalities in our region. It is a lot more responsibility and way more interesting than the work that I've been doing. I'm really looking forward to the next few weeks.

On the flip side of the coin, I had my worst night on the water ever last night. Force 10 was race committee for the night. We had a big breeze, well above 20 knots for most of the night. Everything started fine, we decided to just use the peel to drop the pin and leave the whalers at the dock.

I tied the achor rhode onto the mark and we tossed it in. We then positioned the boat for the start, and started going through the sequence. We kept noticing that the boat end of the line was getting more and more favored, so we repositioned the boat. Once settled down for the second time we figured out that the mark was drifting.

One of the Shark offered to go grab the mark, since we didn't have a whaler. When they brought it back, there was not anchor rhode attached to the mark. DOH! We had to abandon the sharks and somehow managed to get the offshore guys finished.

I offered to buy the beer for the Shark fleet. Bob and Jim kindly offered to pitch in on a couple of pitchers. God, I'm still embarrassed. I will never, ever, live this down.

Oh well, lesson learned.
